"Rogers & Hollands Jewelers has already taken 6 months trying to finish my engagement ring. The diamond fell out after I had it for 4 days. 2 months late delivering it. Now they seem to have lost it."

CX asked them to buy back the ring. They did. $3,700. 15 days.

"Garrett State Bank (IN) bounced a check I had written for $332, which apparently had been re-coded by a credit card company to machine-read as $532. $50 bank fees. $500 interest and fees from them. It would have cleared for the amount I wrote."

Garrett State Bank's president called CX 5 days after the CX complaint. He removed the late fees and agreed to call and write GE/Mongram to reinforce CX's request to eliminate its charges. Monogram Credit Card Bank agreed..

"Everdry Waterproofing unnecessarily destroyed our wall. "Chop job," said a city inspector. Charging $3,500 more than agreed $10,000. $340 to fix, including plumber."

Two days after CX faxed, Everdry sent her the $340 and confirmed that they were not charging her the extra $3,500.


Going beyond what CX requested, they gave her a 10 year extended service contract worth $490.

SBC ambushed him with a $1,700 phone bill.

They reduced it to $198. 6 days.

Someone else read what you just read. He called CX about SBC's failing to honor a promise.

SBC cancelled the $185 overcharge and gave him an unexpected $16 refund. "Fantastic...I'm speechless."

"Albert Lee Appliance (WA) sold me a Maytag Microwave oven, specifically not the damaged display model. They delivered a damaged one, then replaced it with another damaged one. Said they'd replace it. Hasn't happened. 6 weeks. Overcharged for installation."

Albert Lee replaced the unit 3 days after CX's fax, then refunded $150 8 days after CX's 3d letter requesting $100. Maytag extended the warranty for 2 years.

"Our new SUV has an ominous noise that cannot be diagnosed or fixed. Also ongoing electrical problems."

General Motors bought it back for $31,000, 17 days.

He bought a lemon of a KItchenAid refrigerator from Sears. 2 years of problems, including an erratic alarm.

Whirlpool agreed to buy it back for the full $2,000 price, 7 days after CX faxed. Sears called CX to be sure the consumer was satisfied.

Her doctor used a collection agency because her insurance didn't pay him. But the insurance company didn't pay because her doctor was two years late billing them.

When it received the CX complaint, the bankrupt insurance company paid the 7 year old bill.

A CPA paid to get a low interest rate to refinance her mortgage. Ditech.com (= GMAC = General Motors) delayed processing her mortgage until her "lock" expired.

They changed their position as soon asCXgot involved. This saved her $10,400 in interest and fees. Ditech later called CX to be sure she was satisfied.

He couldn't get their attention, even with his complaint in a computer magazine. Hewlett-Packard promised his printer would work with new software. It didn't. HP even charged him for the misleading advice.

CX got him a $30 refund for his "help" call and $150 for a new printer.

"United Sales and Book Publishing deceived me with a believable promise to help me make money at home and to reimburse me for my expenses. Haven't heard a thing from them in a year. $500."

One day before CX was scheduled to publish the complaint on the web, the consumer received all her money by next-day air delivery.
